SUMMARY:Crew Overboard Challenge - SYSCO offers this event to all as an effort to improve river safety
DESCRIPTION:Additional details for download HERE. \nTop Five Race Concepts for Having Fun (download) \nSYSCO Crew Overboard  (COB) Challenge\nMarch 24th\, Sunday\, start time 1pm\nBuoy 14 Start line\nEverybody welcome! \nPractice your Crew Overboard skills in the Crew Overboard Challenge March 24th\, starting at 1pm. No one goes in the water! Way more fun that way! This challenge is set up to practice your skills by going through 2 overboard drills of your own design. They can be full blown with your spinnaker flying\, or a minimal toss off your stern. This practice drill is a great mixer because you can’t continue on until you retrieve your marker from the water. \nThe other fun part of this race is the Pursuit Chase start: the slowest boats go first. Theoretically\, everyone will end at the same time\, making for an exciting finish. \nThis challenge is sponsored by SYSCO (Small yacht sailing club of Oregon) every year. For 2024 we’re using it as a Grow the Sport event. Fees are waived. All sailboats are welcome to participate. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Crew Meeting with Guest Speaker
DESCRIPTION:Getting ready for the sailing season with a crew meeting & potluck dinner. \nHeld at the office of A. Mazon and Associates\, Marine surveyors. \n1425 N Pier 99 St\, Suite B. Portland 97217 \nHelp us plan for the meeting RSVP HERE. \nOur speaker is Archer Mayo\, a search and recovery diver in the Columbia\, Willamette and nearby waterways. He has been involved in anything from recovering personal property to recovery of a research vessel lost in 2017 and is now closing in on answers to a 1958 disappearance of the Martin family whose car is believed to have gone into the Columbia River near the Gorge. \nHis organization Underdog Dive Search/Recovery is based out of White Salmon Washington He has an extensive knowledge of underwater cliffs\,pits and the abundance of lead which finds its way into our food chain. He has found fishing weights going back 12\,000 years when Indians used basalt tied to cedar bark rope as a sinker and recently found several lbs of lead sinkers from the Spring Creek hatchery and Cascade Locks. He hopes to create a market for lead salvage and initiate an extraction program he’d name “Sinker Swim”. \nCome for an interesting evening and learn what’s below the surface. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Coon Island - East Dock
DESCRIPTION:It’s a spooky time of the year. \n \nThe tale begins on October 20\, 2023\, on a haunted Island knows as Coon. \nIn the eerie evening hour of six\, goulash appetizers will suddenly appear by cruisers that know the tales of the island. Sharing appetizers for your safety is encouraged! No one knows where those that don’t have disappeared to! \nIt is said that the day light hour of October 21st are safe from the ghost and goblins that haunt the Island! Breakfast and lunch are safe on your own!  Bring a pumpkin to carve and decorate your boat during daylight hour to keep what lurks in the woods at night away! Prizes will be given for the best of both. \nMysterious murders and a Scavenger hunt will be played\, but no one knows who starts them and the winner of a prize is a mystery. \nBe careful as the moon begins to rise! Beware and join others at six in the Pavilion. You are encouraged to enchant the spirits by dressing in a costume and sharing in the evening potluck of devilish foods prepared in Halloween style. There will be more prizes for the scariest and most original costume and devilish food. The pavilion will be decorated with your pumpkins for safety and light. Oh but\, watch out of the ghost and goblins known to appear around the edges of the area. \nOn Sunday morning the 22nd the Ghost and Goblins enchanted by your spirit will join you for a potluck breakfast to share in the prized! They will likely appear at nine! \nAn RSP or is that RIP is necessary to appease the Spirits! \nRSVP Here. (Trouble w/ RSVP? Try refreshing your browser) \nHosted by Hooligan and Rising Star
